Kara Goughnour
Forever Future
The only thing this body knows
is the bright, white longing
of things that don't yet exist;
this clammy skin covered consistently
in compensation and amends.
When we finally feel out this future
in its finite depths, I will lock the doors
and feed you the keys in lime pie
so that I will have more to long for —
as that's the sickness of it,
this smile lined with sour lemon–rind,
this body never knowing what
it really holds.

Kara Goughnour is a queer writer and documentarian living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They received their Bachelor's Degree in Creative and Professional Writing from The University of Pittsburgh. They are the author of Mixed Tapes, forthcoming in the Ghost City Press Summer 2019 Micro-Chap Series.
