Enjoy Being Human

Tony Plocido

Precipitation

There was often sadness
at the ends of her sentences.
It sounded like rain
coming through the roof.
It could have been relaxing
if there wasn't a slow destruction
happening.

She liked to hold my hand
when she spoke of
stubborn subjects
Like love
or yesterday.
She said it kept her from drifting.

I would catch her drift,
so I would speak of
center lines,
lanes and
how to drop this nonsense.
I mean we had to share this road.

I used to dream
that she would talk to me.
Back before I knew
how much her accent
would affect me.
Like this weather.

I wanted to stay dry, but
that's not what rain does.
